GMC girls, boys take fifth in GHSA state golf
Two top-10 individual performances sparked GMC to fifth-place finishes in both girls and boys in the GHSA state golf tournaments that concluded Tuesday.
The Bulldogs took five in Class A/Division II.
Madi Grace Simmons finished eighth for the girls, and Josh Walker ninth for the boy.
Hawkinsville’s girls finished second in the same classification, led by sixth-place Riley Lancaster, who was 10 shots better than Simmons with a 189.
The only public access to results on were Twitter posts from the GHSA with minimal lists of the top three teams in each class, as well as sporadic posts from teams. Players and team officials have free access to the GHSA golf app, which the association has quietly pushed for a few months.
Otherwise, access cost $10 per event or $20 for all events, although it doesn’t state if that was for the tournament or whole season, or if there is a lesser charge for the final two days of the season.
There was no admission to the tournaments themselves.
More details will be posted by The Sports Report if the GHSA releases the results on Wednesday. Until then, based on social media posts:
Perry’s Caden Camp, competing as an individual, finished tied for 10th in Class 4A boys, 11 shots off the lead. The Panthers’ Samantha Hillhouse finished tied for 25, three spots up from West Laurens’ Morgan Barfield and five ahead of the Raiders’ Braelee Beasley.
Veterans’ Alex Hays finished 19th of 78 players in Class 6A boys.
Jones County’s girls took ninth in Class 5A with a 583, Greenbrier winning with a 503.
Upson-Lee’s girls finished ninth in Class AAA with a 297, 20 shots from fifth and behind winner Savannah Christian (241),
The ACE girls took fifth in Class AA, only six shots from third.
