Crawford County has a new football coach

Craig Puckett has been busy at Crawford County the past few years.

The Eagles baseball coach – and alum - took over the football program in the offseason of 2021, and gave that up after the 2022 season, going 6-15 with two playoff trips in two seasons.

He took over in mid-March as athletics director, and has hired his football replacement. He just went down a hall, figuratively.

Dusty Jump is the new Crawford County head football coach, as per a social media post Tuesday night. He was approved at Tuesday night’s board meeting.

Jump is a Crawford County grad as well, Class of 2003, and graduated from Middle Georgia State. He has worked at Macon County, MGSU as well as his alma mater.

He has been Puckett’s defensive coordinator and is the head girls basketball coach.

Central Georgia teams advance in GIAA tennis

Stratford advanced in the GIAA team state tennis tournament on Tuesday.

No information or scores were posted by the GIAA as of 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Stratford was the only area team to post scores by 11 p.m.

The Eagles boys beat George Walton 3-0 after a first-round bye, and take on Rivers at 10 a.m. Wednesday at John Drew Smith.

The girls lost 3-1 to Heritage in the first round.

Also competing: girls teams from FPD, Covenant, Brentwood, and Trinity Christian, and boys from FPD, Fullington, and Brentwood.

Action continues Wednesday at Randy Stephens Tennis Center/South Bibb Recreation Complex and Class at John Drew Smith Tennis Center.
