Two Central Georgians in top 350 at Boston Marathon

          Georgia College’s cross country coach and a Stratford alum finished in the top 350 overall at the 2023 Boston Marathon.

          John Green, who just completed his first season as head cross country coach at Georgia College, had the top finish among Central Georgians, 114th overall and 95th among men. Green was an assistant at Georgia College before being promoted 14 months ago.

          The West Forsyth grad ran for three years at Lipscomb and one at Tennessee-Martin.

          Stratford grad Nathan Dummitt took 315th overall, out of more than 30,000 runners, and 284th among men. Dummitt graduated in 2021, having competed in track, cross country, and wrestling for the Eagles, setting three program distance marks in the GHSA state meet as a senior.

          He’s an engineering student at Georgia Tech.

          Former Mercer women’s cross country runner Marina Van Sickle was the top area female, finishing 7,196th overall. She is now a staff industrial engineer at the Mercer Engineering Research Center and lives in Warner Robins.

          Grace Tinkey was among Central Georgia’s top high school runners a little more than a decade ago during a storied career at FPD. Now a second lieutenant and pilot in the U.S. Air Force based at Sheppard AFB in Texas, Tinkey was 7,382nd overall.

          Former Mercer tennis player and coach Warren Woolfolk finished a little ahead overall of ACE cross country coach Lea Anne Walters.

          Melissa Geck Ethridge ran at Georgia College, and now works at Robins Air Force base. She finished in the top third of the full field.

          Nearly 350 runners from Georgia competed.
