The Red Devils rallied with two in the seventh in the nightcap, but fell short. Ben Broadnax and Harlem Phillips each had two hits and two RBI for Hawkinsville.

Wilkinson County’s Dupree signed by Falcons

Henley storms into contention at Heritage

On paper, Russell Henley’s spot on the leaderboard after the first round of the RBC Heritage indicated sweating out a second round.

He was tied for 94th.

No problem. He zoomed up 58 spots with a 5-under 66 round and sits in a tie for 34th, 4 under and eight back of leader Jimmy Walker.

Henley and Chez Reavie tied for the third-biggest leap from the first round, behind 63 spots for Garrick Higgo and 74 for Master champ Jon Rahm.

The cut line was 2 under, so some good scores were for nothing in the 147-player field. Top-50 FedEx Cup players Tom Kim, Thomas Detry, Sam Ryder, Kurt Kitayama, Mackenzie Hughes, Sam Stevens, Max Homa, and Si Woo Kim, among others, didn’t make it.

Henley followed two bogeys and a birdie in the first round with one bogey and six birdies in the second, tying his third-best round of the year.

He’s continuing a nice surge after a so-so start, with six rounds of 70 or better in his last 14 rounds.
