Alumni Update

Stratford grad makes MLS debut

A decade after finishing up at Stratford, Jonathan Dean is still playing soccer.

The former Eagle made his Major League Soccer debut on Saturday for Chicago Fire FC in its 1-0 loss to Philadelphia Union.

Dean played at Georgia United before heading to Wofford for a year and then to Central Florida, where he made 50 appearances from 2016-19.

He was drafted 39th overall in the 2020 SuperDraft by Orlando City, but was released less than two months later. He then played with the Birmingham Legion, starting a week after his release, in the United Soccer League.

His debut came that July against Memphis   He was a second-team All-USL pick in 2022, his third season, plaing every minute of the regular season.

Chicago signed him two months ago to a one-year deal.

Henley closes Players strong

Yet again, he couldn’t get through a bogey-free round, but Russell Henley was otherwise on point for a second straight day and shot a 2-under 70 at the Players Championship to finish tied for 19th with a 6-under 282.

That was 11 shots back of winner Scottie Scheffler, and good for $275,000.

Henley bogeyed two of the first four holes, then had birdies on three of the next six. Another bogey showed up, but he finished with birdies on 16 and 17 and a par on 18.
