Mary Persons places in state swim meet
One of the few Central Georgia teams competing in the GHSA swimming and diving championships showed up well.
Mary Persons finished seventh in the Class A-3A girls division with 138 points, just behind Mount Vernon and Columbus. Wesleyan won the division with 300 points. The meet was held at Westminster and Georgia Tech, ending Saturday.
Maela McKallip won the 50 freestyle state title, and was the 100 free runner-up. She held off Columbus’ Michael Miller 23.92-23.99 for the 500 free title, teammate Abbey Stembridge taking sixth. She was a half-second behind Mount Pisgah’s Emma Livezey in the 100.
The 400 freestyle relay team took third with a 3:46.99, just behind Wesleyan’s 3:45.27 and Mount Pisgah’s 3:45.54.
Veterans finished 18th in Class 6A boys with 48 points.
ACE finished 26th out of 31 teams in 1A-3A boys with 27 points, and Mary Persons was 30th with 11 points.
