The newest class of inductees to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame got the weekend started Friday night, with nice weather expected for full day on Saturday.
Andruw Jones was the lone inductee unable to attend Friday night’s private gathering at the Hall building downtown, a social hour followed by each new member being presented his Hall jacket after a recitation of accomplishments.
The Hall will also honor longtime Georgia Military College junior college head coach Bert Williams, West Laurens’ Demaryius Thomas, former UGA baseball coach Steve Webber and ex-Georgia Southern baseball coach Jack Stallings as “legends” members.
Activities resume on Saturday at 1 p.m. until 2:30 with the Fan Fest at the Hall. Admission is free. The first 300 visitors - the Hall will open at 10 a.m. – receive a free FanFest autograph book.
Fans can bring two items per inductee.
Among those expected to attend, in addition to the new inductees: Tony Barnhart, Buck Belue, Bobby Bryant, Alan Chadwick, Pete Cox, Steve Holman, Bob Horner, Roger Kaiser, Jaime Kaplan, Tom Lyons, T. McFerrin, George Patton, , Bill Ploeger, Phil Schaefer, Gary Stokan, and Scott Woerner.
Here is a link to the jacket ceremony (fast forward to 7:15 for the start). Saturday’s Parade of Stars will be streamed at 6:45 p.m. and then the ceremony at about 7:45 on the Hall’s Facebook page.
