Anthony Mannella must have had some plans over the weekend.

He sure didn’t spend much time on the mat.

The Mary Persons senior defended his Class AAA GHSA state wrestling title with a technical fall 15-0 win, in 4:08, over Cason Cannon of Pickens on Saturday at the Macon Coliseum to finish the season 48-1.

He zipped through his first two matches, sticking Cason Turner of Morgan County to the mat in 54 seconds and then pinnng Joaseh Haynes of Whitfield County in 3:46.  Cannon had won by fall in 3:02, and then won 4-1 and 6-5 to reach the final.

In Saturday’s action, less than usual on the final day, Peach County senior Eli Brown took third at 165 in AAA with a fall in 2:09.

Dodge County junior Kaitlyn Brown was the lone Central Georgia girl competing on Saturday, and she took third at 100, beating Jordan Epstein of Greenbrier 3-0 to finish the season 31-18.

Classes 7A, 3A, AA, and girls wrestling finished on Saturday.
