Dodge County approves new football coach

Some experience at one of the state’s top all-time programs and a little bit of Cajun is what Dodge County is getting with new head coach Phillip Brown.
He was approved Thursday night by the county school board to become the program’s eighth coach since 2000.
Brown succeeds Thomas Smith, who spent one year in Eastman after coming from Wheeler County. That’s where he returned after his successor resigned for family health concerns.
Dodge County went 1-9 last season, 0-6 in Region 1-AA. The Indians were more competitive than many teams with better records, losing only three games by more than 17 points, 28 points the largest margin of defeat. They lost five by single digits, including in overtime to Worth County and by four to AA state runner-up Swainsboro.
Brown is from Houma, La., and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University. He has also coached at Cook, Colquitt County, and Thomasville.
He was the special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Valdosta.
