Last week’s upsets

First and foremost was to the north, where Jones County showed that Dutchtown was overrated – a nice team, yes, but still overrated – and that the Greyhounds are capable, despite recent struggles. The 28-point underdog (that was waaaay too much, from Maxwell) won by 17.

Westside’s playoff hopes after a nice start took a big hit with a 21-point romp by Griffin, a 14-point underdog.

Upson-Lee is hot, the 13-point underdogs rolling at Jackson by 21.

Last week’s surprises

Figuring out Baldwin remains an issue. The Braves can’t find any consistency, and are still mistake-prone. No doubt Jesse Hicks expected a lot better with a week off after hammering Howard 45-0 than 35-0 to Perry.

Loughdmouthings

Alabama-Tennessee, a game where as great as the game was and clenching as the ending was, you just wanted overtime. More of what they gave us: phenomenal entertainment.

Remember who wrote a year ago that Tennessee would be better than expected. That would only carry over. And now, 2022 Tennessee-Georgia takes us back to the days of Hobnail Boots, when the game was big in the East Division race. …

Good to see Jake Fromm get another chance.

Sad to see Jake Fromm get another chance and it be with Washington.

It’s still a little hard to understand how he got cut loose so quickly, considering his last gig was with the Giants, who were a clear and present mess at the time, bearing no resemblance to what’s going on now.

He’ll raise the quarterback room, and if he gets a shot on the Giants now, the one that’s got some quality to it, don’t be surprised if he sticks a bit longer.

Amazing how different a meal is when it’s chicken salad instead of, eh, not chicken salad. …

Central Georgia’s 1,000-yard rushers, as per MaxPreps: Nick Woodford, Northeast, 1,619 yards; JaQuan Bentley, Upson-Lee, 1,312; Duke Watson, Mary Persons,1,308; Hunter Kirkley, Westfield, 1,212; CJ Allen, Lamar County, 1,047. Next: Stratford’s Keondra Glover, 887.

Central Georgia’s 1,000-yard passers, as per MaxPreps: Antwann Hill Jr., Houston County, 1,969; Jeb Walls, Central Fellowship, 1,721; Armar Gordon Jr., Perry, 1,673; Jake Maxwell, Veterans, 1,620; Jakhari Williams, FPD,1,459; Morgan Jones, Washington County, 1,295; Chase Dupree, Southwest, 1,279; James Neville, Westside, 1,230; Hunter Kirkley, Westfield, 1,195; Logan Hickman, Mary Persons, 1,142; Judd Puckett, Crawford County, 1,111; Judd Anderson, Jones County, 1,058; Justin Reynolds, Piedmont, 1,031; Eli Mullis, Bleckley County, 1,022, Next: Briggs Eady, John Milledge, 854.

How much of a pig remarkably in charge will people put up with any more?

The PRIC in this case is Daniel Snyder, owner of the Washington Commanders, and such a minimally, well, won’t say that, such a pig of a human, he’ll blackmail NFL owners to keep the team.

This is the guy who runs an organization that inspires Harvey Weinstein and, eh, others currently in the news known for arrogance and a complete dismissing of the female part of the race.

Thanks to Dublin, FPD, GMC, John Milledge, Jones County, and Westfield for information on game night, Houston County on Friday for Thursday’s game and John Milledge from Monday. Coaches, please have somebody email game information – general is fine – or a picture of stat sheets to @centralgasports@gmail.com by 2 a.m. after games.

There’s no doubt that many owners have some general scumminess to them. People with money and power and ego tend to kind of be that way. But clearly, none have such a high DQ: Dirtbag Quotient.

Let’s hope the owners take him on, and then sue the crap out of him, his wife, neighbors, investors for slander. Or something. Anything. …

And then there’s the outdated area high school football website – for the love of God, schools and teams, check your websites and social media and started converting/exporting and then deleting – that notes a coach was in charge of the “safetys”.

There’s more of that from adults in education than you’d think. …

Stratford gave John Milledge plenty of trouble scoreboard-wise last week, even though the Trojans were in more control. And the Eagles may have been driving toward the tying touchdown when a swing pass turned into a batted-away lateral and scoop-and-score.

Thought from before that game still stands: The second Macon team to play JMA – between FPD or Tattnall – had the better chance to beat John Milledge and break the now-44-game winning streak.

The Trojans were finally sore on Saturday and Sunday, and Monday, and for a rare second straight week had to pay full attention in every practice. Hasn’t happened in a few years.

Overall record aside, yeah, 2-5 FPD can take down the Trojans, even in Milledgeville. The Vikings are balanced, have one of the top athletes in the GIAA at quarterback, and are pretty much a 5-2 team in a 2-5 record, plus they had a week off after thumping Mount de Sales. …

A beg, a plea, a whine: High school prospects, please, honestly, if you want to avoid looking like a simpleton, consider posting your assorted announcements from a computer. Use all 10 fingers, look more literate. Before starting, make sure – twice, and with an adult’s confirmation – you get the actual proper name of the school you’re citing.

They’re not all “University of”, not by a long shot. Don’t assume. Look it up. Shows you pay attention to detail, a good thing.

And finally, be literate and with no typos. You’re not writing a paper, you’re writing a paragraph. Get any their/they’re/there right, and all that. Capitalize, punctuate.

          Pleaseandthankyou.

Polls

Division 1 (6A-5A-4A-3A, 13 teams)

1. Perry

Folks, look at the D of coordinator Charles Anthony. The Panthers have given up fewer points in September and October than the offense is averaging: 41 given up, getting 42.9 a game. Good grief.

2. Houston County

Unheard of a month ago: If Houston County beats Thomas County Central, on the road, yes, the Bears will jump to No. 1. Considering the odds of Houston County spending the entire season ranked were pretty low back in August.

3. Warner Robins

Here they come. A week off, and suddenly, the region is tight. As if the game at Jones County next week needed more juice.

4. Northside

Are the Eagles lurking, ready to sneak up – they’ll need a better passing game, period – on a top-5 team?

5. Peach County

The Trojans were pretty Trojan-like in dumping Mary Persons, racking up more than 400 yards in total offense.

Division II (AA-A-GISA, 34 teams)

1. Northeast

The Raiders pretty much clinch the Region 2-AA title with a win over Spencer, but it won’t be like the other region games (average score: 52.5-16

2. Putnam County

The War Eagles have two huge weeks, start Friday, in the way of repeating as region champs.

3. John Milledge

Finally, the players woke up on Saturday sore, after a week of having to pay attention every day. Now, we’ll see, because they haven’t had that routine very often.

4. Dublin

The Irish defense deserves a shout, giving up 13 and 6 to ranked opponents in consecutive games. They have two one-win opponents before Swainsboro. Mmm hmm.

5. Bleckley County

Only one time have the Royals given up more than 13 points this season. That’ll stay for another week, and then Swainsboro.

6. Lamar County

Temple was supposed to be somewhat competitive, but CJ Allen showed up again, so, never mind.

7. ACE

The Gryphons have a test to pass with Rutland, a 41-14 winner a year ago.

8. Dooly County

The non-region loss to Dublin, and how it came about is the kind of game that sets a team up to win a region title.

9. Dodge County

The Indians are a 5-3 team in a 3-5 record. When they come up with those one or two plays …

10. Tattnall

Probably not the best time for a week off, amid a three-game winning streak. But getting healthy to finish with FPD and John Milledge helps.

They said it

“Let’s both beat the state of Alabama today. Go Vols.”

Said former Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin on the day his Mississippi Rebels were playing Auburn and the Vols were playing Alabama.
