Henley can’t recover from first round
The projected cut at 3 over was posted fairly early in Russell Henley’s second round, but he wasn’t able to do much about it.
Henley avoided much of the disaster of Thursday’s 6-over round, at least countering bogeys with birdies, not enough of the latter to make the cut, though.
The Stratford grad shot an even 70 Friday for a two-round 146, 6 over and ending his weekend. He was joined in the early exit by Webb Simpson, Jason Kokrak, Cameron Smith, Patrick Cantlay, Kevin Na, Kevin Kisner, Louis Oosthuizen, and Phil Mickelson, among others.
Henley started the day, as he has more often than he’d like lately, with a bogey, and added birdies on the front nine. The momentum slowed with two bogeys in four holes on the back nine.
Henley is in the field for next week’s TPC River Highlands in Connecticut.
