GMC, FPD grads help North Greenville to D-II championship tournament
North Greenville is part of the eight-team NCAA Division II championship tournament, and a pair of Central Georgians is a big reason.
GMC’s Cory Bivins and FPD’s Noah Takac have been in the middle of North Greenville’s 50-10 season.
Takac signed with Davidson and pitched in six games as a freshman, and didn’t play in 2020.
The right-hander is 6-0 with a team-leading 1.72 ERA, striking out 48 with 22 walks in 62.2 innings, second on the team. Opponents are hitting a feeble .150 against him.
Bivins is fifth on the team with a .328 average and 49 RBI, and tied for fourth with 11 homers. He also has 10 stolen bases. The shortstop is fielding at .940 clip.
North Greenville took two of three from Columbus State in the Southeast Super Regional to advance.
Takac went seven innings and allowed a run in the middle game, an NGU loss but no decision for him. Bivins went 3 for 12 with three runs and an RBI in the three-game series.
Top seed North Greenville opens with West Chester on Monday in Cary, N.C.
