Class 6A
Buford 11, Houston County 1
The visiting Wolves pulled off a stunner with the romp over the Bears in the deciding game, a battle between two highly ranked teams that lasted only five innings, an extreme rarity for a Houston County loss. Buford led 2-1 through three, but put up eight in the fourth to take control. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, the Bears stranded two in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth. The Bears finished 28-6 after their fifth game with less than five runs and biggest margin of the year by three runs.
Class AA
Pace 5, Bleckley County 2; Pace 7, Bleckley County 1
The Royals (24-12) scored two in the second and led until Pace scored five in the sixth on six singles, a sacrifice, and error. Bleckley County managed only two hits, four times fewer than Pace, and left four on base. J.R. Fordham struck out nine with two walks. Pace led 4-1 after two in the nightcap, and took advantage of six Royal errors for four unearned runs as well as getting eight walks. Buck Hill had two of Bleckley County’s four hits.
Class A Public
Social Circle 6, ACE 3; ACE 17, Social Circle 7
ACE took a 3-2 lead in the second, but gave it back in the third and couldn’t catch up, despite being even with Social Circle with 10 hits and nine LOBs. The Gryphons wasted a fifth in which the first two batters reached and a leadoff single in the seventh. Gavin West had three hits, and Trevor Derrick and Granted Edwards had two each. The Gryphons led 5-0 before Social Circle counted ACE’s two in the fourth with three in the bottom half, but ACE closed strong with 10 in the final three innings in a 20-hit game. ACE had four errors and Social Circle five, thought the combined for only five unearned runs. Tate Brown drove in four runs on three hits and Sam Whitley went 4 for 5 with two doubles and rive runs. Trevor Cannon and Derrick had three hits each, Derrick with a homer and three RBI. Gavin West and Jack Corrigan added two hits each, Corrigan with three RBI and West with a homer. Game 3 is Wednesday at 6 p.m. at ACE.
