A few weeks after winning the state duals, West Laurens will enter the GHSA traditional state wrestling meet as one of the favorites in Class 4A.

The Raiders qualified 11 wrestlers for the state tournament that starts Thursday at the Macon Coliseum, with three seventh-place finishers who will be alternates.

Perry qualified six in 4A, Lamar County six in AA, and Mount de Sales six in Class A.

Sectionals took place throughout the state on Saturday. The top six qualified for state.

West Laurens’ Chase Horne was one of several Central Georgia sectional champs, winning by fall to improve to 56-0. The N.C. State signee was joined by teammates Aiden Ingram, Drake Wood, Caden Snell, and Evan Guyton as sectional champs.

Two of Veterans’ five qualifiers took firsts, Latrell Schafer and Tanner Vorse. Perry’s Austin Thiel took first in 4A, as did Mary Persons’ Anthony Mannella, in 3A.

Lamar County’s Christian Bostic and Northeast’s Jarrdarrious Goolsby won in Class AA, and Tattnall’s Grady Tisdale in Class A.

More than 70 wrestlers from 23 Central Georgia teams advanced.

Horne and Thiel are defending state champs. West Laurens’ Caden Snell and Mount de Sales’ Elijah Batchelor, Tisdale took third last year in the state tournament.

Dodge County's Kaitlyn Brown and Upson-Lee's Juliana Carmona won sectional titles in the one-class girls division to lead the Central Georgia competitors advancing.
