The Wildcats lead of 15-14 late in the second quarter was preserved by an interception by Peach County grad Ethan Manns.

Three different Bears scored before the first quarter was done, and two more joined the scoring column by halftime in what was a battle between two of the Southern Conferenceâs top scoring teams.
Mercerâs TJ Moore picked off a pass on WCUâs first play from scrimmage, and the Bears (5-1, 3-0) converted that seven plays later on Austin Douglasâ 1-yard run. The Bears ran and passed for two more first-quarter scores.
WCU (3-3/1-2) entered the game averaging 39.2 points a game and Mercer next at 36.6 in the Southern Conference. But the Catamounts of head coach Kerwin Bell turned it over five times and were held to less than 100 yards rushing.
The Bears were up 42-0 before the Catamounts broke the shutout with a field goal five minutes into the third quarter.
Mercer hosts East Tennessee State next at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
