          The Cougars had all they needed after two innings, with a 3-0 lead.Emily Whitwell, Marissa Holder had two hits each for Piedmont, which got RBI from Whitwell, Jacie Jenkins, Teagan Hinson, and McKayla Arnold. Whitwell went the distance for the win, with four walks and four strikeouts, plus six hits.

Football

Spalding 39, Westside 18

          Spalding led by one after a quarter and 26-18 at halftime, but took over with a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters while shutting out Westside, which was up 6-0 early. The Seminoles lost their third out of their last four games to fall to 5-3 and 1-3.

Southwest 27, Kendrick 8

          The Patriots improved to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in Region 2-AA, handing Kendrick its 31st straight on-field (excluding a forfeit win) loss.
