Georgia State AD Cobb to visit Macon TD Club
Georgia State athletics director Charlie Cobb is Monday’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
The program begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth on Pierce Ave. Cost is $30 for non-members.
Central and Covenant are this week’s high schools.
Cobb is a Columbia, S.C. native who played football at NC State, getting his business degree in 1990. The center made second-team All-ACC and all-academic as a senior and earned the ACC’s Jim Tatum award for senior player with the highest GPA.
Currently a member of the College Football Playoff Management Committee, Cobb was hired at Georgia State in 2014 and has sparked major academic progress inside the athletics department as well as new and upgraded facilities.
Most notable is the repurposing of old Turner Field into a football stadium more fitting the Panthers’ program than playing at the old Georgia Dome. Now, that entire area is undergoing growth with the eventual completion of new baseball, softball, and soccer facilities as well as athletics offices.
Cobb spent nine years as athletics director at Appalachian State after six years with the Atlanta Sports Council Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and Georgia Dome.
His wife Lindsay was an All-ACC keeper at NC State and is the head soccer coach at Whitefield Academy.
Maconite and Mount de Sales grad Chris Hatcher of Samford is next week’s speaker.
