One area team picks up a game in October, loses Friday's game: Washington County and Perry to play
It’s been a good and bad couple days for Washington County head coach Joel Ingram.
On Wednesday, Washington County and Perry agreed to play on Oct. 8, giving each a needed game after COVID erased the Golden Hawks’ opener with Baldwin and Perry’s second and third games.
Perry picked up Crisp County and won 21-0 Thursday night over the No. 6 team in 3A, a vacancy created when Hampton had to cancel.
Instead, Perry will host Washington County on Oct. 8.
The game comes a week Washington County plays Northeast and Perry hosts Spalding.
On Thursday, though, at the start of practice, Ingram got word that Thomson had to cancel Friday’s game because of COVID concerns.
A similar situation at Washington County led to the postponement last week of its opener against rival Baldwin, which already had a win under its belt.
A year ago, Washington County didn’t open the season until Sept. 11 against Swainsboro, a game which is still intact on the schedule next week.
Perry leads the series with Washington County 6-3, winning the last meeting, 28-27 in 2005.
