Friday night's Central Georgia football scouting reports
Teams: Please email game information – stats (offense and defense), names, big plays, etc. – to centralgasports@gmail.com by midnight Friday or by 10:30 a.m. Saturday for inclusion in Central Georgia’s only comprehensive roundup Saturday morning.
Games of the Week
Baldwin at Ware County
Ware County QB Thomas Castellanos has completed 68.2 percent for 475 yards, with two TDs and two picks. The 2-0 Gators are No. 2 in 5A and the 1-0 Braves are No. 9 in 4A. Baldwin is 3-7 in its last 10 games against a ranked team.
Coffee at Houston County
The Bears broke an eight-game losing streak with a 17-10 win last year after losing the last three by 21, 27, and 35. They’ll have to deal with Antwain McDuffie, who had 163 yards and a TD in a 35-21 win over Bainbridge.
Westfield at Stratford
Will this bear more of a resemblance to the old GISA days than expected? Westfield has quarterback Hunter Kirkley in from Dodge County to go with a mix of returnees, including Porter Faulk, Gavin Vining, and Cole Miller. The Eagles routed an undermanned and in-transition George Walton team last week, so the 40-point win is likely a bit misleading.
Notables
Bleckley County at Toombs County
The Royals went from a home game to a road game, making their first 3-0 start since 1991 a little tougher. This is the first meeting since 2009, and Toombs County – a 39-0 loser to Dodge County in the opener – leads 8-5. The Bulldogs went 7-5 last year.
Dodge County at West Laurens
West Laurens is trying to avoid losing two straight, and two straight to lower-classification teams. The latter hasn’t happened since 2005. Dodge County leads the series 19-6.
Pinewood at John Milledge
Is John Milledge going to have a four-quarter game? At home? Pinewood QB Mic Wasson is one of the top players in GISA, and the Trojans have some holes to fill. The Trojans have won the last six in the series: 35-0, 38-6, 35-6, 37-0, 42-14, and 31-20. Indications are this might be closer to the 31-20 game than 37-0.
Southwest at Mount de Sales
This is the Cavs’ first game against a county public school since they lost 21-8 to Howard early in 2017, and only the second against a currently-named county public school. It’s Southwest’s first game against one of the county’s Big Four private schools.
