Brentwood 55, Southwest Georgia 53

          The War Eagles led 32-25 at the half and 43-40 after three, surviving into the GISA Class AA championship.

Southland 48, John Milledge 39

          John Milledge led 10-4 after one and 15-14 at halftime of the GISA Class 3A semifinal.

Westfield 54, Holy Spirit 53

          The Hornets got the game-winner low in the paint from Avery Adams with eight second left to advance to the GISA Class AAA championship game.

Westwood 61, Piedmont 49

          Piedmont’s season ends in a GISA Class AA semifinal.

 

Baseball

Bleckley County 11, Swainsboro 0

          Six in the fourth sealed it for the Royals, who got a four-hitter from Brody Little and Matt Huff. Eli Mullis had three hits, with two each from J.R. Fordham, Matthew Bland, and Huff, Mullis and Huff with two RBI each. Bland, Mullis, and Conner Senters each scored twice.

Crawford County 11, Lamar County 2

          The Eagles controlled from the start, with five in the top of the first en route to a 16-hit game. Derontae Stewart and Brennan Hudson had four hits each from the 1-2 spots in the lineup, combining for five runs, Hudson driving in two. Judd Puckett and Kenneth Taylor had two hits and two RBI from the 3-4 holes. Starter Levi Hammock whiffed eight with no walks in giving up five hits.  Nathan Tidwell had two hits for the Trojans.

Dodge County 12, Telfair County 2

Fullington 8, CFCA 4

Jasper County/Monticello 4, Alcovy 1

          Small ball was the name of the game, the Purple Hurricanes pushing across four runs on four hits, walking only once and striking out eight times. Justyn Fields had two hits and two RBI, and Mac Barton scored twice. Trent Maddox and Myles Proctor handled the pitching, Proctor with seven Ks and one BB in four innings.

Perry 10, Schley County 2; Perry 15, Schley County 4

          An 8-1 lead after two was enough for Perry, led by Tyler Newhouse and Carson Bryant, with three hits and three RBI each. Tanner Knowles and Garrett Davis added two hits each. Ben McDown and Alex Scarborough teamed for a four-hitter. Perry blew open a close nightcap with 11 runs in the sixth inning, down 5-4 at the time. Six Panthers had at least two hits, led by three-hit games from Lane Rucker and Newhouse, Newhouse with four RBI, as did Dylan Butler on two hits. Knowles, Tristen Freis, and Bryant also had two hits. The Panthers host Jones County on Friday.

South Effingham, 6, Upson-Lee 5, 12 innings

          South Effingham tied it with three in the top of the seventh, both teams scored two runs in the ninth, and the visitors won it in the 12th on two singles, stolen base and error, followed by an inning-ending double play one pitch later. The Knights went down in the bottom of the 12th on eight pitches. Beau Ellington had two of Upson-Lee’s eight hits, Austin Hendricks and Miller Patterson driving in two runs each. SE stranded 11, the Knights eight, but Upson-Lee batters struck out 10 times to only two walks.

Strong Rock 7, Mount de Sales 1

          Strong Rock put up five in the second, getting a three-hitter. Elijah Freeman had two of the Cavs’ three hits.
