          The Irish roll into the quarterfinals, and a trip to Drew Charter.

John Milledge 64, St. Andrew’s 39

          The Bulldogs return to the Final Four for the first time since 2017, and will play Bulloch on Friday 5 at 5 p.m. at Georgia Southwestern.

Hancock Central 68, Social Circle 58

          The defending Class A Public champs advance to the quarters, and will travel to Terrell County.

Robert Toombs 61, Gatewood 56

Veterans 81, Woodward Academy 63

          Veterans moves on to its first Elite Eight, and will host Chapel Hill. Tajh Williams put up 24 oints for the 23-0 Warhawks. DeAngelo Hines added 17 and T.J. Grant 15.

Washington County 61, Westside-Augusta 51

          Jairus Brown did most of the offensive damage in a balanced attack – five more players had at least six points – with 20 points, plus four assists. Caleb Moore had six rebounds and five assists, and Warren Coneway five rebounds to go with eight points.

 

Baseball

Hartselle, Ala. 3, Houston County 2, 8 inn.;

          A run on a 2-2 wild pitch in the top of the eighth did the Bears in. Houston County got a pair of two-out runners in the bottom half, but grounded out to end their first loss this season. Gage Harrelson had two of the Bears’ five hits, and Coleman Willis struck out 10 with two walks and two hits in five no-decision innings.

Mary Persons 8, Alcovy 8; Mary Persons 21, Rutland 0

          The Bulldogs rolled in the second game, with five RBI and four hits from Eric Snow, two-RBI games from Caden Swancey, Jaden Bankston, Aric Mock, and Thorn Anderson, a four-hit game from Swancey, Mock, and Anderson, and four RBI from Thomas Brooks. Swancey fanned six with a walk in the four-inning two-hitter.

Peach County 9, Crawford County 7

          Crawford County tied it with five in the top of the sixth, but the Trojans answered with two in the bottom half and held on. Bryce Harrelson led Peach County with three hits and three runs, while Jacob Harnist added two hits and two RBI and Michael Kovitch three RBI and Drew Bailey two.

Perry 5, Locust Grove 2

          Four runs in the third put the Panthers in control. Jonah Wynn and Daniel Vandivear teamed for a three-hitter. Tanner Knowles gave Perry three hits and two runs from the leadoff spot, and Garrett Brown drove in two runs.

Pierce County 11, Stratford 6; Pierce County 4, Stratford 0

          Five runs in the bottom of the fifth lifted Pierce County, which outhit Stratford 11-4. The Eagles led 4-3 after two and tied it at 6 with two in the top of the fifth. Mikah Takac had two hits and Jase Smith three RBI for Stratford. Pierce County pitching was too strong in the nightcap with a three-hitter.

          The Knights were outrebounded 62-32 and held to 24 percent shooting from the floor, giving up two double-doubles in the SSAC tournament championship in Montgomery, Ala. MGSU was down 11-0 after nearly four minutes, but tied it late in the first. Destiny Kincaide led MGSU (13-5) with 14 points while Jessica Belcher added 11.
