Perry takes fifth in GHSA state wrestling
Perry was the only one of four Central Georgia teams to advance Saturday in the GHSA state wrestling duals, and the Panthers finished fifth in Class 4A
The Panthers topped Thomas County Central 43-28 in a quarterfinal, then lost a heartbreaker 37-35 to Flowery Branch, which finished second to Jefferson.
Perry got falls from Walker Passinault (13), Brannen Moss (145), Deondray Releford (160), Coleman Tadich (170), and Releford at 182 plus Shoshoni Williams at 220 in the win over TCC.
In the semifinal, Flowery Branch and Perry each recorded four pins, but Perry had to forfeit at 113, giving up six points. The Panthers won seven matches to six for the Falcons. Perry then lost 45-31 to Central-Carroll in the consolation round.
West Laurens lost 55-24 to North Oconee in a quarterfinal and then 39-37 to Central-Carroll.
In Class AA, host Lamar County lost 47-36 to Vidalia, which lost in a semifinal. East Laurens was beaten 62-18 by Dade County, the state runner-up. In consolations, Lamar Cunty topped East Laurens 51-30 and then lost to Lovett 43-27.
