Warner Robins leads contingent of Central Georgia teams in final football polls (updated with Maxwell)

Warner Robins leads the contingent of seven Central Georgia teams finishing ranked in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s final statewide poll, and were joined by other teams in the final Maxwell Ratings.

The 5A state champs and top-ranked Demons are joined by co-Houston County colleagues at Perry, which is No. 8 in 4A, along with Baldwin at No. 10. Semifinalist Jones County is seventh in 5A.

Peach County is No. 4 in 3A and Bleckley County No. 7 in AA, Dublin finishing fifth in Class A Public.

The Demons racked up a hefty resume of wins this season: No. 8/7A Archer, Class 5A’s No. 2 Cartersville, No. 3 Blessed Trinity, No. 4 Ware County, and No. 7 Jones County. The only loss was to 6A runner-up Lee County.

And five teams that Warner Robins played last year finished ranked this year: 7A No. 3 Colquitt County, 6A No. 1 Buford, 5A No. 5 Coffee (this year’s game was cancelled) and No. 8 Starr’s Mill, and 4A No. 10 Baldwin.

Rome, which Warner Robins has played twice in the last four years in the playoffs, finished unranked for the first time since 2015.

In the Maxwell Ratings, state champs aren’t necessarily No. 1, as is the case in 3A and 2A.

Central Georgia teams making the Maxwell polls but not human AJC rankings: Dodge County and Northeast in AA and Macon County in Class A Public.
