Henley in the hunt entering Sony final round
A third round of 66 or better has Russell Henley only three shots behind the leader and among 16 within five shots at the Sony Open in Honolulu.
Brendan Steele shot a career low 61 to take a two-shot lead.
Henley isn’t far back at 195, tied for fourth with Peter Malnati, Charley Hoffman, Chris Kirk, and Stewart Cink. His 65 on Saturday pulled him from 10th. Kevin Na and Joaquin Niemann are tied for second, two back.
He had two birdies on the front nine Saturday, opened the back nine with a bogey but finished the day with an eagle on 18, a pair of birdies in between.
Henley opened the tournament with six birdies and two bogeys, and followed up with a 64 on Friday, boosted by seven birdies and a bogey.
It’s been a good weekend for Henley, who missed the cut in the Mayakoba Golf Classic in early December, ending a run of five finishes of 30th or better. He won this tournament in 2013, his first pro win.
