Shaw rallied a little bit with two in the bottom of the seventh, but Crawford County’s two in the top half were the difference. Kryssi Maddox had two hits for the Eagles, while striking out 12 with five hits and a walk.

The Hornets put it away with four runs in the first two innings, helped along the way by three GMC errors. Sadie Hayes had two hits, runs, and RBI at leadoff, and Brooke Corlee went 2 for 2 from the eighth spot. Sydney Langdon was solid on the mound, with 14 strikeouts and no walks in a two-hitter.

TD Club honors trio
Players from Rutland, Central, and ACE earned Macon Touchdown Club players of the week honors for last week’s action.
Back of the week Jessie Phelps Jr,. of Rutland ran 23 times for 247 yards, and caught three passes in the loss at Luella.
Lineman of the week Adam Lamar of Central racked up six tackles, three for loss, and 2.5 sacks in the the Chargers first win over over Westside.
Special teams player of the week Mason Maddox of ACE had punts of 41, 46, 37, 43, and 41, a 41.6 average, in the loss to Tattnall.

West Laurens freshman football player dies from gunshot
Le’ontae Coates, a freshman football player at West Laurens, died Sunday morning of a gunshot wound.
A number of social media posts from the team and school district said he “passed away in the early morning hours” Saturday.
Counselors were available Monday at West Laurens.
A Lauren’s County Sheriff’s Office release said officers responded to a home in East Dublin around 6 a.m. Sunday, and found the 16-year-old dead of a gunshot wound.
Roderick Brown and Lashundria Madison have been charged, Brown with criminal trespass and simple battery, and Madison with aggravated assault against Brown, but no charges have been filed regarding Coates’ death.
