Macon TD Club welcomes UGA legend Butler

Kicking legend Kevin Butler is Monday’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.

The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Cost is $30 for non-members.

Southwest is this week’s featured high school. Mercer head coach Drew Cronic is next week’s speaker.

Butler is a Savannah native who graduated from Redan in Stone Mountain, and kicked a 44-yard game-winner to win the state title his senior year over Marist.

He went on to earn two All-American honors and four All-SEC selections at Georgia, and holds the team record with 353 points, second in SEC history.

Butler hit a 60-yarder against Clemson in 1984, 17 years before becoming the first kicker inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

He spent 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears and was part of the 1985 Super Bowl champion. Released in 1995, he spent two years with Arizona. Drew, one of three children, was a punter at UGA and spent four seasons in the NFL.
