Dublin football team hit with quarantine; Dodge County-West Laurens postponed

Dublin is joining a very dubious small club.

The school’s entire football team is now under quarantine, according to a lunchtime release from the school system.

In the past few days, Perry and Westfield have been sidelined because of positives tests and/or contact. A COVID-19 situation has led to the cancellation of Friday night’s Dodge County showdown with West Laurens.

The defending GHSA Class AA champions are off Friday, and scheduled to play Wheeler County next week and Swainsboro on Oct. 2. They have no scheduled open dates left, as part of the large nine-team Region 4-A Public. Swainsboro is the only non-region game left.

          From the release:

Due to COVID19 exposure within the Dublin City Schools system, out of an abundance of caution, and in keeping with the advice of health officials, the Dublin High School football team has entered into quarantine.

“This is an unfortunate set of circumstances,” said Dr. Fred Williams, Superintendent, “but safety must be a first priority.”

According to the South Central Health District, all close contacts are required to quarantine for 14 days after last contact, and all infected individuals must quarantine 10 days from symptom onset.”

Shortly thereafter, West Laurens and Dodge County announced the postponement of their game, “due to a COVID-19 situation.” Where?

From West Laurens’ Facebook post at 1:06 p.m.:

“Due to a COVID-19 situation at Dodge County High School, tonight‘s football game between West Laurens High School and Dodge County High School has been canceled.”

From Dodge County’s post at 1:54 p.m.:

“Due to Covid19 exposure OUTSIDE of the Dodge County School System, the Dodge County High School football game against West Laurens tonight has been cancelled.”

They will try to reschedule.
