Mary Persons mourns baseball player McCoy

          Baseball and football player Dillon McCoy of Mary Persons died Friday from injuries sustain in a single-car accident last week.

          McCoy, 16, was in an accident on Highway 42 south of Forsyth on May 27, when he lost control on a curve and went down an embankment and hit a tree. He was taken to Navicent Health in Macon, and died early Friday afternoon.

          There was a vigil in his honor Saturday night at the Mary Persons baseball field.

          The rising junior was an organ donor, and that has led to life-saving donations to three people.

          An account has been set up at United Bank in Forsyth to help to accept donations. Services had not been finalized as of Saturday night.

 

Honor Roll

          Mercer outfielder Colby Thomas is a freshman All-American in the opinion of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

          He is the sixth straight Bear to make the freshman team (Angelo DiSpigna, Le Bassett, R.J. Yeager, Zach Graveno, Robert Broom, and Trey Truitt), hitting .333 with a team-high nine doubles, five homers, and 18 RBI.

          Teammate Jackson Kelley was D1Baseball.com’s breakout pitcher in the Southern Conference.
