Coastal Plain League makes adjustment for the 2020 season

The Coastal Plain League will become the Southern Summer Ball Series. And/or  Sort of.

Macon, Savannah, and Lexington, S.C. will start playing each other on July 1, the league announced Wednesday. A season-ending southern region playoff between the three is planned.

National, state, and local regulations and guidelines will then determine if and when eight teams from North Carolina and Virginia can then join in.

The league said that Florence, S.C., Holly Springs, N.C., Asheboro, N.C., and Colonial Heights/Tri-City, Va., have suspended play for the 2020 season.

Macon will have two teams for this format, the Bacon and Eggs. No other information was released regarding the Eggs.

The still-to-be-determined format will have an unbalanced schedule, and some will play other summer college league teams, according to a Macon release, but that wasn’t noted in the league release.

One version of the CPL schedule on the league’s website, though, lists such games starting on June 26, with no information on the non-CPL teams, nor a listing of league games. Another graphic version includes the games with Macon (both teams), Savannah, Lexington, and the Catawba Valley Stars, as well as other unidentified teams.

Savannah will host Macon on July 1 with the Bacon hosting the Bananas a day later, and then Lexington on July 3.

No roster for Macon has been posted yet on the team website.
