Tattnall has a new boys basketball coach
Northeast grad and Georgia Southern alum Derrick Clay is taking over the boys basketball program at Tattnall.
The school tweeted the announcement late last week.
Clay started at Heritage, a GISA school in Newnan, in 2011-12, and departs as the head girls basketball coach after eight seasons, with several region coaching honors and the 2016-17 state title, having also served as head.
According to MaxPreps, he went 152-42 in leading the Hawks girls.
Clay was the school’s head football coach for three seasons, going 24-9 with one region loss. He resigned after the 2016 season as he and wife Keivia prepared for their first child together.
He announced his departure on his Facebook page on Thursday and it had 830 reactions and 450 comments Sunday night.
Clay succeeds Jeremy Mayweather, who moved to take over the girls program upon the retirement of Casey Jones.
