Signings

          Former Mary Persons boys basketball standout Cam Holden (video) will follow two solid years at Gulf Coast State junior college in Florida in the Ohio Valley Conference at Tennessee-Martin.

          The 6-5 wing signed over the weekend.

          He scored 1,409 points in two seasons for Gulf Coast State, helping the program to its first postseason trip since 1972. Holden was the MVP of the state JC tournament.

          UT-M had two seniors from last year’s 9-20 team. The Skyhawks played in the CIT in 2015-17, and last made the NCAAs in 1983. …

          Jones County girls basketball standout Lu Woolfolk has signed with Piedmont, a member of the Division III USA South Conference.

          Woolfolk was the Region 4-5A co-player of the year and honorable mention all state by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and is the reigning Jones County homecoming queen.

The Lions finished 19-9 overall and 13-3 in conference, and had a three-year conference tournament title streak broken in the championship game.

          Head coach Jamie Purdy came to Piedmont, northeast of Gainesville after going 31-21 at Middle Georgia Junior College in 2003-05.

 

Alumni Update/Honor Roll

          Of the 99 student-athletes at Georgia who made the SEC’s winter honor roll, one is from Central Georgia.

          From equestrian, Grace Bridges of Gatewood made the list, her major in management.

 

Georgia College cancels basketball camps

          GC men’s basketball head coach Mark Gainous announced by Tweet Tuesday that the Bobcats camps are canceled for the summer, and will return in 2021.
