Central Georgians ready to wrestle for state championships

          Central Georgia will have 13 athletes going for state championships on Saturday at the GHSA traditional state tournament at the Macon Coliseum.

          Another 10 will hit the mat and compete for third place, with 10 battling for fifth. Veterans’ Tyler Barb is fifth because of an injury forfeit.

          In team competition, Veterans is second in 5A with 153 points, two ahead of Buford and 42 behind Woodland-Cartersville. W-C has six finalists to four for Veterans and Buford.

West Laurens is third and Perry fourth in Class 4A, with four points separating the two, 104-100. Woodward Academy is first with 149.5 points, and has five finalists, with three for the Panthers and two for the Raiders.

          Teams also get points for places three through six.

          Matches for fifth and sixth place start at 9 a.m., with bouts for third and fourth at 11 a.m., and the finals at 2:30 p.m.
