Macon TD Club welcomes Georgia Southern legend Adrian Peterson
One of the best college football players in state history is the guest speaker Monday night’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
Georgia Southern legend Adrian Peterson is in town eight months after induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Cost is $30 for non-members.
Jones County is this week’s featured high school.
Peterson is still the NCAA’s all-time Division I rushing leader with 6,559 yards in regular-season games. The Alachua, Fla. native earned four All-American honors, and was the first sophomore to win the Walter Payton Award (I-AA Heisman).
He cracked 100 yards in 48 straight games, and held 30 school playoff records by the time he was done. He was drafted in the NFL’s sixth round in 2002 by Chicago and played there until 2009, rushing for 1,283 yards and catching for 665 yards while playing a lot on special teams as well.
Peterson has battled stuttering, and is known for charity work and emphasizing education. He is in his first season as Georgia Southern’s director of student-athlete development.
He is in the GSU hall, Southern Conference, Georgia, and College Football Hall of Fame
