Central Georgia's high school football scouting reports
Teams: Please email game information – stats (offense and defense), names, big plays, etc. – to centralgasports@gmail.com by midnight Friday or by 10:30 a.m. Saturday for inclusion in Central Georgia’s only roundup.
Class 6A
No. 10 Houston County (5-2) at No. 1 Lee County (5-1)
The region opener features the top two rushers in 1-6A, Lee County’s Caleb McDowell (526 yards, 9 TDs) and Houston County’s Tyler Williams (506/2). Neither team throws much, so this’ll be mostly a slobberknocker.
Northside (3-4) at Valdosta (2-3)
The Valdosta QB not named Jake Garcia is second in the region with 728 yards, while Elijah Robinson of Northside is first with 1,132 yards, also leading with 11 touchdowns. But the Eagles have struggled on defense and with consistency, and the Wildcats have had two games cancelled, so they’re looking for consistency, too.
Class 5A
No. 1 Ware County (6-0/1-0) at No. 3 Warner Robins (5-1)
The Gators like The Mac, despite the 35-0 loss to the Demons there in 2018, a year when Warner Robins was a surprise team. No surprise on either side this time. Both teams have played a big-time schedule, though Ware County has played only two 6A or 7A opponents.
No. 7 Ola (6-0/3-0) at Jones County (3-3/3-0)
Against teams not ranked – at the time - in 7A or 5A, Jones County is has outscored three opponents 147-36, an average of 49-12. Ola has yet to play a ranked team, or a non-region opponent above Class 4A. And the Greyhounds are balanced, with only 73 more yards rushing than passing.
Class 4A
West Laurens (3-3/2-1) at Perry (2-4/2-0)
Perry leads the series 18-8, but the Raiders have won four of the last six, including last year’s 36-2 game. Both teams have been up and down on both sides of the ball, and stats are pretty even overall, although Perry and Lane Rucker may have an edge in the passing game.
Class 2A
East Laurens (3-2/0-1) at Vidalia (3-2/1-0)
The overall records are close, but East Laurens is down in this series 14-8. They haven’t played each other since 2009, Vidalia hasn’t had a losing season in that span, and East Laurens has had one winning season in that span.
Dodge County (2-3/1-1) at Lamar County (3-4/1-2)
A battle of two teams probably better than their records. Dodge County has a win over Dublin and was a play away from beating Bleckley County and Whitefield Academy. Lamar County lost in OT to Jackson, and has lost the momentum of a 2-0 start by losing 61-6 total to Washington County and Lamar County.
Southwest (1-4/0-3) at Washington County (3-3/1-1)
The Golden Hawks got a breath of fresh air with Bleckley County’s loss Thursday, so Washington County – even with a loss to Northeast – is back in the hunt for a home playoff game with a win over struggling Southwest.
Class A
No. 10 Chattahoochee County (5-0/3-00 at Taylor County (5-1/4-1)
Both have wins over ranked teams that have fallen by the wayside. Chattahoochee County and Macon County are undefeated in region play, and play on Nov. 20. The Vikings can make a crowded region even moreso with a win. Making sure the playmaking gets spread around when the Panthers focus on Jabin Ford is huge.
FPD (3-3/1-0) at Mount de Sales (3-3/1-0)
The records are the same, but the Vikings outscore opponents by 3.67 on average while the Cavs are minus-8.17. FPD has a few more weapons with QB Parker Ingram (1,173 yards passing), RB Matthew Hurt (417 yards rushing), and receivers Jordan Jones (678 yards receiving) and Jackson Moore (237 yards).
Glascock County (3-5) at GMC (4-3)
Glascock County isn’t playing an official region schedule, and is on the losing end of a 24-3-1 series record. A win give GMC a fifth win, which hasn’t happened since 2011.
Greene County (0-5/A Public) at Crawford County (0-7)
The Tigers are getting 3.2 points a game, to 7.6 for the Eagles.
No. 6 Macon County (5-1/4-0) at Greenville (1-5/0-3)
The hosts are on a five-game losing streak, having cracked double figures only once along the way (48-19 loss to Taylor County). The Bulldogs are outscoring teams by 22.3 points a game.
Stratford (3-2/0-1) at Strong Rock (4-2/1-0)
Stratford’s three-game losing streak was broken last week, 17-14 by Mount de Sales. The Patriots’ first season was in 2007, and they have yet to finish at even .500, but are atop the region.
Treutlen (1-5/0-4) at No. 5 Dublin (5-1/4-0)
The teams haven’t played since 1995. Since then, Treutlen has had four winning seasons, and Dublin has had four losing seasons.
GISA
Brentwood (4-1) at Robert Toombs (0-4)
The War Eagles are on a four-game winning streak, with 20 points being the closest game. The Crusaders are outscored 49.5 points a game.
Piedmont (5-1) at Augusta Prep (3-4)
The Cougars have reached the five-win mark for the first time since 2015.
Westfield (4-0-1/3A) at Gatewood (5-1/AA)
A quality non-region showdown at a place where the hosts are 11-2 since 2018 at home, the only losses to 3A power John Milledge.
