Honor Roll
Houston County grad Amber Coy of Georgia Collegeis a semifinalist for the Coach Wooden Citizen Cup Award, one of five from Division II.
The award is presented by Athletes for a Better World, and is named after the legendary UCLA men’s basketball head coach. She is among 22 semifinalists.
It is “presented to distinguished athletes from any sport – two high school, one intercollegiate, and one professional – that best display character, teamwork, and citizenship, the attributes Athletes for a Better World deems central to transforming individuals, sport, and society. The award establishes the recipients as athletes of excellence both on and off the field, role models both as performers and persons, the most important and distinctive honor athletes can achieve.”
Coy, as per a Georgia College release: “she displays extraordinary citizenship and the will to help people in need. A nursing major with a 3.90 GPA at Georgia College, Coy proves her willingness and readiness to take effective action to help those in need. She embodies what it means to be a Bobcat student-athlete.
“Coy serves as the secretary for the Bobcat Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and is very active in the Baldwin County community and back at home in Warner Robins. She is active in her church and has volunteered at the Mary Vinson Library and the Life Enrichment Center in Milledgeville among others. She also won the 2019 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Elite 15 Award, given to the student-athlete with the top GPA among the teams at the championship site.”
Ally Barys (soccer, 2016) and Kara Teresi (soccer, 2009) have also been semifinalists.
Winners include Tim Tebow, Mia Hamm, Andrea Yaeger, Cal Ripken, Jr., and Peyton Manning. …
A number Central Georgians earned fall honor roll citations at Georgia, with a 3.0 or better.
Equestrian rider Grace Bridges of Gatewood made the Dean’s List with a 3.5 or higher with 14 or more hours, as did footballer Trey Hill of Houston County.

Making the honor roll with at least a 3.0: Jake Fromm, football, Houston County; Hannah Coulter, softball, Bleckley County. …
Mercer’s Djordje Dimitrevic is the latest Southern Conference men’s basketball player of the week, after averaging 25.5 points in games against VMI – with a career high six 3-pointers – and Samford, matching the career high in 3s as the Bears won both games. He shot 60.7 percent from the floor in the two games. …
CGTC’s Dynesha Brown is the GCAA women’s hoops POTW after 18.5 points, nine rebounds, 1.5 assists, and three steals in two wins last week. …
FVSU defensive end Demetrius Harris made the Don Hansen All-Super Regon Two team as the defensive player of the year, and was joined by five teammates on the team.
Linebacker Majeste Hansberry made the second-team defense.
Quarterback Slade Jarman, wide receiver Shemar Bridges, center Emmanuel Boone and safety Zach Anderson were third-team selections.
Harris led the FVSU defense, ranking in the top five nationally in Division II with 1.35 sacks and 2 tackles for loss per game. He had 25 solo and 18 assists, plus six forced fumbles.
