Kyle Lewis had him an MLB debut Tuesday night
Former Mercer baseball standout arrived in Seattle on Tuesday and was put in the lineup at the sixth spot against Cincinnati.
Lewis grounded out to third in his first at-bat, in the second inning. But he sent an 0-2 fastball deep over the wall in left-center, tying the game at 1 in the fifth.
Lewis struck out on four pitches in his third at-bat, in the seventh. The Mariners won 4-3.
Braves Report
Another so-so Max Fried start, but this time, he couldn’t quite get out of it and Philadelphia nipped Atlanta 6-5.
Fried gave up five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and four homers in five innings. Five relievers combined for one run, one hit, five strikeouts and three walks.
Fried has given up about a run an inning in three of his last four starts.
One of the homers was an inside-the-park effort from Scott Kingery. His third-inning shot went to center, where Ronald Acuna thought he had caught the ball. But he was flippant in finishing it and the ball squirted out of his glove, and while he was slow to recover, Kingery rounded the bases.
Atlanta went 2 for 8 with runners in scoring position to 1 for 4 for Philly, which stranded one less runner than the Braves.
Ronald Acuna and Freddie Freeman had three hits each and Johan Camargo two, for eight of Atlanta’s 10 hits. The Braves struck out 12 times.
Next: Wednesday, at Philadelphia, 7:05 p.m., FSSE; at Philadelphia, 7:15 p.m., FOX; Friday, at Washington, 7:05 p.m., FSSO
