Bacon headed to the championship round
Preston Sparks was a money pitcher at Veterans, and at Middle Georgia State.
He was big money Tuesday night for Macon.
The Central Georgian sat down eight batters with one walk and three hits in 6.1 innings to lead Macon to a 1-0 win over Forest City in the second round of the Coastal Plain League playoffs.
And now the second-year team is in the championship round.
As of 1 a.m., the league website had no updates from Tuesday’s action (failing to update the other playoff pairings from Sunday).
According to Twitter posts, Macon is back home again for the opener of the Petitt Cup Championship Series, hosting Morehead City. First pitch is likely 7 p.m.
The lone run came in the second, and early, with a leadoff homer from Daniel Harris, a Miller Grove grad and junior at Eastern Kentucky.
Sparks retired the first 10 batters before a one-out single in the fourth. A batter reached in the fifth on an error and advanced on a wild pitch.
The Owls put together consecutive one-out singles in the sixth, but Sparks got two straight outs.
Sparks left after a one-out walk in the seventh, giving way to Walker Barlow, who went 1.2 innings.
Georgia College’s Chris Rolick got his first save with a 16-pitch ninth.
