Tech’s Collins broke some hearts when he left Philly
One was that of a campus police officer, who said Geoff Collins was embracing and appreciative, and that it hurt when Collins left. “Something that you want to be a part of and always (be) around, hands down.”
Locals off to good start at USTA juniors tournament
Macon’s representatives in the USTA National Level 3 tennis tournament in town are off to a good start.
Samuel Barrow rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 opening win over Alex Yu of Great Falls, Va., and followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Arun Venkal Guruswamy of Jericho, N.Y. in boys 18s.
He’s back in action Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at John Drew against Saurav Chala of Peachtree Corners.
Maconite Daniel Cohenn and Nicklas VonHellens of Thomasville beat Henry Bilici and Ethan Bondick 6-0 in boys 18 doubles, and play New Yorkers Alex and Zachary Portnoy at 8 a.m. Sunday at John Drew Smith.
Thomas Brewer of Macon and Cy McLeod of Augusta had a first-round bye in boys 16 doubles and play at 8 a.m. Sunday against Arsal Farooq and Ryan Mangiapane, who won 6-3 in the first round.
Barrow, Cohen, and Brewer are on the Stratford boys team.

Braves Report
Atlanta got off to a good start with Ronald Acuna’s latest leadoff – first pitch – homer and then Austin Riley belted one in the second inning, but the Marlins battled and put three up in the fifth for the lead – for good – and a 5-4 win.
The Braves got nothing the final six innings. Nick Markakis led the ninth off with a single, but reliever Sergio Romo got Riley and Johan Camargo on flyouts and Tyler Flowers on a game-ending strikeout.
Miami outhit Atlanta by six in breaking an eight-game losing streak to the Braves.
The Marlins (33-55) stranded 11, seven more than Atlanta, and went only 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Max Fried gave up 11 hits and five runs in five innings to fall to 9-4, with only one strikeout against seven strikeouts but two homers. Three relievers gave up only four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Ozzie Albies had three hits and two runs with no RBI, and Markakis had two hits.

Macon rolls past Savannah
A three-run second put Macon in control en route to a 6-0 win over Savannah in Coastal Plain action at Luther Williams Field.
Daniel Harris led the Macon offense with a 3-for-3 night with two runs and two RBI. Brandon Ashy added two hits and Cory Bivins (GMC) scored twice.
Tyler Thompson went five innings and gave up four hits and two walks while striking out three. He was followed by Ryan Kouba, Walker Barlow, and Jordon Wyke, who threw no-hit ball.
Bivins drove in a run in the third and Harris two with singles to give Macon all it needed.
Macon, now a half-game behind Savannah in the South, is off until Wednesday at Florence followed by a home game a night later against Florence.
