Braves Report

          Ozzie Albies had a third of Atlanta’s hits and Freddie Freeman most of the RBI as the Braves beat Milwaukee 4-2 on the road.

          Freeman belted a three-run homer in the fourth for all Atlanta would need. The Braves added one in the seventh.

          Luke Jackson needed all of 12 pitches to finish it and get his 17th save.

          Max Fried went five shutout innings, leaving with a blister. Then Josh Tomlin gave up two runs on three hits, and Chad Sobotka and Anthony Swarzak turned in an inning each.

John Milledge grad earns all-conference … again

          Harrison Bryant has been drawing attention since he showed up at Florida Atlantic, and he enters his senior season with another resume-building item:

          First-team all-conference preseason team.

      The senior tight end will start for the third year, having improved on his numbers each season.

          The Owls open the season on Aug. 31 at Ohio State.

Rutland/Mercer golfer Pyon opens strong at state women’s open

          Carol Pyon, a Rutland grad and sophomore at Mercer, is fourth amateur in the top 13 in the Georgia Women’s Open golf tournament at the Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega.

          She shot an even-par 72 in the first round of the two-round tournament, tying with two others for 11th in the 45-player field.

          Not too far back in a tie for 16th with a 3-over 75? Eujin Pyon, Carol’s younger sister.

          Emma Jandel of Dayton, Ohio leads with a 9-under 63, three strokes up on a pair of golfers.

          Eujin is tied for second with the most pars at 14 and has an eagle, countered by two double bogeys and a bogey.

          Carol had three bogeys and two birdies.
