NCAA Regionals: Neighboring states 3, Georgia 0

          Mercer, Georgia, and Georgia Tech all lost on Saturday in the regionals in Athens and Atlanta, Mercer’s season ended by Florida Atlantic, and the Bulldogs and Jackets sent to the loser’s bracket by Florida State and Auburn. In The Latest Coverage.

 

Georgia College’s Taylor makes second appearance for Boston

          Josh Taylor, who finished at Georgia College in 2014, threw a shutout inning for Boston on Friday against the New York Yankees.

          In two appearances since getting called up on Wednesday, he has thrown two innings with three hits, two strikeouts, and a run.

          The 6-5 lefty from Arizona throws in the mid-90s.

Macon holds off Savannah in pitchers duel

          A two-run first put Macon on top, and Tattnall grad Cory Bartholomew, Wyatt BEakler, Brenden Tuttle, and Chris Rolick made it stand up in the Bacon’s 3-1 win over Savannah.

          The offenses teamed for five hits and nine left on base.

          The pitchers combined for 21 strikeouts – Macon won that 14-7 – and four walks.

          Central Georgians got Macon going. Cal Gentry (Perry/Georgia College) walked and MJ Rookard (MGSU) reached on an error, and they came in on a double from Zach Cornell (MGSU).

          Bartholemew went six innings, striking out nine with two walks, two hits and one run.

          Macon visits Florence City on Monday and Florence on Tuesday, hosts Savannah on Wednesday and then heads down I-16 on Thursday. The Bacon welcome Lexington County on Friday, and then are on the road for two games.

 

Braves Report

          Starter Mike Soroka gave up four runs in 6.2 innings, and the bullpen and offense performed in a 10-5 win over Detroit.

          Freddie Freeman, Dansby Swanson, and Austin Riley belted homers, and Atlanta pitchers struck out 1 with no walks.
