Honor Roll and Signings (this week and last week)

This week's signings

          Three players from Monticello signed to continue their softball careers on Wednesday.

          Outfielder Mackenzie Tripp, who hit .389 with 22 RBI and 19 steals last year and had three homers in the championship tournament, is headed to Brewton Parker.

          Two-time All-State shortstop Lacey Rutledge, who batted .408 with three homers and 26 RBI, has signed with Georgia Highlands.

          And 2017 Dugout Club Class AA player of the year Mia Jenkins, four-time all-region and two-time all-state pick, signed with Troy.

          Sarah Middleton of GMC is the GCAA pitcher of the week after going 2-0 with a save in 11.2 innings, with 10 strikeouts, two walks, and a .63 ERA. ...

          Mercer graduate senior Kel Johnson is the Southern Conference player of the week after a quality four-game stretch.

          He hit .350 with four homers and 10 RBI against Savannah State and Binghamton. Johnson has reached based in 20 straight games, and tops the conference with 10 homers and 27 RBI. ...

 

Last Week's Signings
          Dodge County girls basketball standout Europe Brown has signed with Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Ala.

          She averaged 16.9 points last seaason, passing the 1,000-point mark while also earning 3-AA defensive player of the year honors.

          CVCC finished 25-7 overall, and was 12-0 in the Alabama Community College Conference. ...

          Mercer added pitcher Jordan Dubberly to the baseball team Thursday.

          Dubberly is at St. John's River State College in Florida, having graduated from Jeff Davis. He started out redshirting at Georgia, and played for the Macon Bacon last summer. In six games this season, he is 2-1 with 24 strikeouts in 25.1 innings and a 3.55 ERA.

 

Last week's Honor Roll
          Amanda Thompson's resume grows again, the Mercer women's basketball senior being named the Southern Conference student-athlete of the week.

          In the span of eight days, Thompson was named Academic All-American by college sports information directors, Southern Conference coaches' player of the year, first-team all-conference, conference all-tournament, and winner of the SoCon's Pinnacle Award for the highest GPA on a championship-winning team.

          The electrical engineering major from Hayesville, N.C. has been the top student-athlete three times. ...

          A pair of Central Georgia alums at Georgia College took Peach Belt softball honors for last week.

          Brentwood's Caroline Snider is the player of the week for the second time this season after batting .500 in four games, starting off 4-for-4 against Newberry. She is third in the conference with a .451 average, and is first in triples and steals.

          Ariel Edenfield of West Laurens is the freshman of the week, after getting the win over Newberry with 5.1 shutout innings, and helped the Bobcats to a doubleheader split with Georgia Southwestern. ...

          Ashaunti Brown and April Rogers of FVSU earned SIAC women's track athletes of the week, Brown in the discus (36.4 meters at Columbus State) and Rogers by placing in the 100, 200, and long jump. ...

          Central Georgia Tech's DeJon Waters Jr. was the MVP of the GCAA Region 17 tournament, and was joined on the all-tournament team by Southwest grad Aaron Ridley III.
