Honor Roll
Amanda Thompson's resume grows again, the Mercer women's basketball senior being named the Southern Conference student-athlete of the week.
In the span of eight days, Thompson was named Academic All-American by college sports information directors, Southern Conference coaches' player of the year, first-team all-conference, conference all-tournament, and winner of the SoCon's Pinnacle Award for the highest GPA on a championship-winning team.
The electrical engineering major from Hayesville, N.C. has been the top student-athlete three times. ...
A pair of Central Georgia alums at Georgia College took Peach Belt softball honors for last week.
Brentwood's Caroline Snider is the player of the week for the second time this season after batting .500 in four games, starting off 4-for-4 against Newberry. She is third in the conference with a .451 average, and is first in triples and steals.
Ariel Edenfield of West Laurens is the freshman of the week, after getting the win over Newberry with 5.1 shutout innings, and helped the Bobcats to a doubleheader split with Georgia Southwestern. ...
Ashaunti Brown and April Rogers of FVSU earned SIAC women's track athletes of the week, Brown in the discus (36.4 meters at Columbus State) and Rogers by placing in the 100, 200, and long jump. ...
Central Georgia Tech's DeJon Waters Jr. was the MVP of the GCAA Region 17 tournament, and was joined on the all-tournament team by Southwest grad Aaron Ridley III.

Howard’s Carlie Harriger signed last Thursday morning to play women’s soccer at Georgia College. …
Central’s Cam Collier signed with LaGrange football on Wednesday. The receiver caught 24 passes for 378 yards and three TDs for the Chargers last season, adding eight tackles and an interception en route to Region 4-AAA honorable mention. He also started on the Chargers' region champion basketball team, and is a track co-captain. ...
A trio of All-Central Georgia picks from Washington County had their signing ceremony on Tuesday.
Third-team defensive back Dadrian Lyman had signed with Morehouse, and third-team defensive lineman Jay Sanders had signed with Limestone.
First-team running back Dyquan Bloodsaw, who rushed for 2,326 yards and 33 TDs, is headed to Benedict, an SIAC school in Columbia, S.C.
Lyman and Sanders signed last month, and Preston Daniels was a first-signing-period addition for Kennesaw State.

Amanda Thompson has racked up her third straight SoCon women's basketball player of the month honor.
The Mercer senior forward is the first player to pull off the hat trick since Mercer's Precious Bridges did it in 2014-15.
Thompson was good for 13.1 points and 11.3 rebounds in February, hitting 49 percent from the floor and 78 percent from the line.
She had four double-doubles, a season-high seven assists against Furman, all helping the Bears to their fourth straight regular-season title. ...
R.J. Yeager, to the surprise of few, is the first Southern Conference baseball player of hte month this season.
Mercer went 8-1 in February, thanks in part to Yeager batting .350 with six homers, 12 runs, and 14 RBI. He had a hit in all nine games. ...
CGTC's Anyeuri Castillo is the GCAA's Division I men's basketball defensive player of the year as well as first-team all-conference overall and defense.
The 6-7 sophomore forward is averging 14.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals through 28 games. He was a second-team and all-freshman pick last year.
He has signed with Appalachian State.
DeJon Waters Jr. made the second team after scoring 14.1 points a game to go with 7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. ...
Washington County alum Nia Johnson made the All-Gulf South Conference womens' basketball second team. The Delta State junior is in the top 10 in the GSC with a 14.7 scoring average and averaged 3.1 rebounds and 2.71 assists a game.
