Howard and Mary Persons battled in big way Thursday night for a playoff spot in Region 2-4A, and it came down to the final two minutes.

Mercer hosts a hoops doubleheader
Western Kentucky and Columbia International visit Hawkins Arena for a Mercer basketball doubheader.
The men face Columbia International in the home opener after the loss at St. John’s, and the women are home again after thumping LaGrange. Tips are at 1 p.m. for the men and after that for the women.
Samford visits Mercer in soccer, men on the road
Mercer is in the Southern Conference women’s soccer tournament semifinals for the first time since 2016, and host Samford on Friday.
The men take on Wofford at Furman.
