Saturday’s Peach State results
Georgia-Florida is in The Latest Coverage
GMC 35, ASA-Miami 0
The Bulldogs improved to 8-2 with their third straight shutout, having won by an average of 46-0.
GMC avenged a 24-14 loss at ASA-Miami on Sept. 28, its last loss. The Bulldogs travel to Lackawanna, Pa. next Sunday in the regular-season finale.
Monmouth 45, Kennesaw State 21
The Owls’ 12-game Big South losing streak came to a bruising end, and a surprising end at home, in a game of 924 yards in total offense.
It’s the first regular-season home loss since Oct. 15, 2016.
KSU trailed 31-7 at halftime.
Pittsburgh 20, Georgia Tech 10
Savannah State 53, Fort Valley State 24
Ready for a big game upon a return to the SIAC?
Savannah State was, bolting out to a stunning 27-0 first quarter lead and cruising after that.
FVSU’s 14-point fourth quarter more than doubled the output of the first three quarters, and was the Tigers only scoreless quarter.
The Wildcats (6-3/4-1) gave it up three times in the first six minutes and watched the Tigers (6-3/5-0) convert all into points.
So ended FVSU’s six-game winning streak, its longest in more than a decade.
Tigers perfect in return to the SIAC
Mercer 36, Samford 33, 3 OT
The latest homecoming for Chris Hatcher, he won’t forget for awhile.
The Mount de Sales grad watched his team’s postseason hopes officially die after four-plus hours of football, the Bulldogs losing on a 36-yard Caleb Dowden field goal in the third overtime.
Dowden had two earlier field goals, two less than Peach County grad Mitchell Fineran, who drilled kicks of 28, 31, 35, and 23, the first three in regulation.
But Fineran’s miss from 39 yards opened the door for Mercer, and Dowden, from a yard closer, shut the door.
Mercer’s Tyray Devizin scored four touchdowns, while Samford’s Chris Oladokun scored twice.
Neither team led by more than a touchdown, and it was tied twice, Fineran’s 35-yarder with 2:20 left tying it at 23. Dowden missed a 35-yarder to the right on the final play of regulation, the Bears driving 47 yards on eight plays in 2:18.
The Bulldogs had an inevitably fatal pass interference on second and 11, pushing the ball to the 22 with just less than a minute left. Mercer’s defense held on the previous drive, the Bulldogs getting a first down at the Bear 17 but then being held to the 35-yard field goal.
Both teams are 4-5 and 3-3 and out of the postseason hunt.
