Tech holds on to stun N.C. State
“Never trailed” is something Georgia Tech hasn’t heard all season, not even close.
But the Yellow Jackets never trailed in holding off N.C. State 28-26 Thursday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Tech was big in all three phases, averaging 6.2 yards per carry to 4.7 for State, and the Jackets came up with a respectable passing game of 129 yards and three touchdowns on seven completions. The hosts won despite being outgained 457-395, albeit on 22 more plays. The Jacket got 6.8 yards a play to 5.7 for the Wolfpack.
Northside grad Tobias Oliver caught a 13-yard touchdown pass, and Peach County’s Quez Jackson had four tackles, one for loss. Washington County’s Djimon Brooks had a tackle.
Mercer falls in NCAA Tournament
Charlotte was in a 1-0 hole, but emerged to beat Mercer 3-1 in the NCAA men’s soccer tournament.
Signings, signings
Longtime track standout India Turk of Houston County has signed with Kansas State. Her high school career began at Howard as a standout in the long jump and triple jump.
She finished her junior year, after transferring to Houston County, as the state’s 4A horizontal jumper of the year for the Georgia Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
In 2018, she won the 4A long jump title and sixth in the long jump at Howard. Last year at Houston County, she was second in the 6A long jump and fourth in the triple jump.
