Mercer rolls past FGCU in reunion matchup
A balanced attack put mercer in control early and the Bears rolled to an 84-68 win over Florida Gulf Coast in a battle of former Atlantic Sun rivals.
Weather and playing on Friday night led to a half-full Hawkins Arena, but it didn’t slow down the Bears, who won their third straight.
Djordge Dimitrijevic led the Bears with 19 points, freshman James glisson III right behind with 18 points. Daniel Love turned in a career high of 16 points, and senior Ethan Stair added 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Bears cruised without Ross Cummings, sitting out to rest an ankle injury.
Mercer charged out to a 17-4 run seven minutes into the game, and it grew to 31-10 before the Bears took a 46-27 lead into the locker room.
A 26-point second-half lead was eventually cut to 14 only to blow back up to 22.
Mercer trailed for only five seconds in sending the Eagles to their fourth straight loss.
The Bears visit Georgia Southern on Tuesday, starting a three-game road trip that’s followed by Illinois-Chicago and St. Bonaventure, followed by games in Boca Raton, Fla. in the Boca Raton Beach Classic.
Mercer’s next home game is on Dec. 7 against Georgia State.
