Class 6A

Houston County 9, Heritage-Conyers 1; Houston County 15, Heritage 1

A six-run second put the Bears (26-5) up 8-0 in the shortened opener. Averi Martin, Kendall Huelsman, and Madi Campbell added two-hit games to the 3-for-3 effort from Olivia Brown, who had two RBI along with Huelsman, Campbell, and Bobbi Poff. Rylee Lamb sat down six with a walk in the five-inning two-hitter. Four errors led to six unearned runs in the 4.5-inning nightcap, Olivia Brown striking out seven with a walk and two hits for the Bears. Alice Thomas went 4 for 5 at leadoff with two RBI. Huelsman was 3 for 3 with three runs and Ansley Garland 2 for 2 with three RBI. Lauren Ross drove in two runs and Bobbi Poff scored three times. Next: at Pope, Tuesday.

Evans 8, Northside 0; Evans 12, Northside 0

          Evans scored six in the first four of the six-inning game, throwing a three-hitter against the Eagles in the opener. A 10-run fifth in the nightcap, and one-hitter, ended Northside’s season.

Jones County 8, Wayne County 2; Jones County 8, Wayne County 5

          Greyhounds’ boss Blake Lyons won his 500th game. Madison Bennett, Mackenzie Kilpatrick, and Destin Howard had two hits each and Kilpatrick drove in two runs for the Greyhounds, who broke a tie with four in the bottom of the fifth. Kenzie Forrester went the first five and gave up a hit with five walks against four strikeouts. Howard finished it with five strikeouts in the final two innings. Jones County led 6-1 after four and kept Wayne County at bay. Kilpatrick had three hits and two RBI, Bennett and Makinsey Long two hits. Savannah Williams fanned seven with a walk and five hits in 5.2 innings, Howard again finishing things off. Next: at Lithia Springs.

Veterans 8, McIntosh 0; Veterans 16, McIntosh 4  

          Emily Myers was more than on point with 13 strikeouts and no walks in throwing a five-inning two-hitter on 70 pitches. Kaylee Brown had three hits and two RBI, while Jenna Thomas and Nicole Chavous had two hits each, Catherine Hickey driving in two runs and scoring twice. Both teams had four errors in the nightcap, but Veterans had four times as many hits to lead to four times as many runs. Thomas went 4 for 4 with two RBI and three runs at leadoff, followed by Kaylee Brown going 3 for 4 (three RBI, two runs) and Trinity Thiel going 3 for 4 (two runs, two RBI). Caitlyn Snellgrove drove in three runs on two hits, scoring twice. Courtney Maddox threw a four-inning four-hitter, with a strikeout and walk. Next: at Carrollton.

Perry 10, Woodward 2; Perry 9, Woodward 0

          The Panthers won the opener despite being outhit by three, Woodward unable to do much else with Madison Homen, who fanned three with a walk in the five-inning win. Perry, which had four unearned runs, got two-hit/two-RBI games from Raegan Stella and AliRae Dykes, Stella and Terra Odom scoring three times each. Homen was sharper in the five-inning nightcap, with four strikeouts, four hits, and a walk, needing only 62 pitches. Dykes drove in four runs on two hits, Harley Crumley two runs on a hit. Odom again scored three times, on two hits. Next: Northwest Whitfield or Oconee County.
