HSFB2019: Friday night's Central Georgia scouting reports

Games of the Week
Bleckley County (4-1/1-0) at Dublin (4-0/1-0)
These teams have had the same records before, like, two years ago. Dublin pulled out a 19-6 win at home (followed by a 46-15 romp last year). A similarity for the Royals is having a huge, speedy playmaker. This time, it’s Bryce Bailey, who will also line up behind center, and they’re not afraid of throwing the ball with him. Bleckley County has a speed advantage, and will make Dublin defend sideline to sideline. The Irish face a team that took advantage of Northeast mistakes last week to win, and whose only loss was a respectable 28-10 defeat to Class 5A Veterans, three weeks before knocking off top-5 Class A Marion County. But the Royals can’t afford any mistakes.
Dodge County (2-3/1-0) vs. Northeast (2-3/0-1)
The Indians – 37-15 winners last year - appear to have returned to the run-oriented offense, which has apparently inspired confidence in the defense, which turned in its best defensive night of the season, albeit against a team struggling for consistency on offense. Northeast lost last week thanks to four plays/mistakes, otherwise more than holding its own on the road against another playoff-hungry team. The Indians are more balanced, but the Indians come in with more confidence than in a couple weeks, sparked by Daylon Gordon (8.1 yards a carry, eight rushing TDs), who can power and speed.
Howard (4-1/0-0) at West Laurens (4-1/0-0)
All games are line-of-scrimmage games, some more than others, and this is one. The offenses are based more on power than anything, and West Laurens’ defense –led by the undersized and underrated Spencer Dacus in the middle of the line – is superb. The Huskies – 16-10 winners last year -have improved on penalties and mistakes, and are a little more balanced on offense, even if the stats don’t show much. QB Jaylon Clark is capable of making big plays without forcing it, and the Raiders will have to deal with quality backs in Javarsia Meadows and Jeremiah Kelly. Howard’s defense will deal with more balance, led by QB A.J. Mathis – who has passed 1,000 yards already this season - and RBs Christian Covin and Daniel Dorsey. The Huskies will face a large crowd backing a team that really should be undefeated and ranked, so performing on that stage is huge. And both teams have quality place-kickers, one of whom is likely to be the difference.
Warner Robins (4-1) at Houston County (4-1)
What should be a capacity crowd – on both sides – will get a game with a lot of talent in both uniforms, and some contrasts amid what’ll be a slugfest between two of the more balanced teams around. Houston County throws it more than it runs it, with Max Rigby good for 227.2 yards a game, while the Demons give up 163 yards a game. Warner Robins runs it 60.1 percent of the time, but the has more than 300 more passing yards. Both teams have a chunk of defenders – like Wesley Steiner and Antwan Adams for Houston County and Demarcious Robinson and Ahmad Walker, among others – to bring the lumber. Expect a defensive play to be the difference.
