Central Georgia football coaching carousel busier for assistants

There has been only one head football coaching move in Central Georgia, but the carousel has had some action with assistants.
Rusty Easom has taken over at Rutland and has started working to build his staff, which likely means at least a little movement in the area.
Shane Sams left his offensive coordinator spot at Warner Robins to become head coach at Centennial, a move which may have a ripple effect at Warner Robins and in Central Georgia.
Jones County wide receivers coach Antwan Toomer has departed his alma mater for Charleston Southern, as per his Twitter account. Autry Denson just took over as CSU’s head coach, and nothing official has come from the school yet.
Keith Gosse, Houston County’s offensive coordinator for two years, left recently to become head coach at Bacon County. Gosse has been at Brantley County, Appling County, Metter, Tift County, McIntosh County Academy (head coach).
Gosse’s successor is Ben Bailey. Bailey comes from region rival and 6A state champ Lee County, where he was receivers coach. He has coached at Dooly County, Houston County, and West Laurens before Lee County.
Former Jones County head coach Dwight Jones has moved from Russell County, Ala., to Pacelli. He left Jones County for Harris County.

Mercer fills football openings

Mercer’s new offensive coordinator has plenty of big-time experience, and there’s a Central Georgia connection with the new defensive line coach.
Bill Legg, who has coached at West Virginia, Marshall, FIU, Purdue, and consulted at Mississippi State will also coach Mercer quarterback.
Legg replaces Joe Pizzo, who left earlier this month for the same job at Chattanooga.
Jeremy Hawkins spent three seasons as defensive coordinator at Dublin, and then two seasons heading Middle Georgia State’s club team. The Americus native played at Troy, and comes to Mercer as defensive line coach after a year as LSU’s assistant director of player personnel.
He succeeds Kenny Baker, who left after five seasons for the same spot and recruiting coordinator at Chattanooga.
