Services set for FVSU's Lomax

Services for Fort Valley State coaching legend Stan Lomax have been set.

            They will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Pettigrew Center on FVSU’s campus, with burial at Willow Lake Memorial Gardens, just south of campus.

            Lomax died Sunday, on his 95th birthday.

            Lomax graduated from Booker T. Washington High in Atlanta, and then FVSU In 1943. He then began military duty in Europe, duty that included action in the Battle of the Bulge.

            His coaching career started in 1948 at Risley High in Brunswick, where he was successful in football, basketball, and track. Lomax joined the FVSU staff in 1963, and led the Wildcats to SIAC football titles in 1970, 71, 72, and 76.

            He is survived by his spouse of over 65 years, Mary Lucille Lomax. He was preceded in death by his son, Lionel Smythe Lomax. He is also survived by two daughters, Linda Victoria Brown (Robert) and Laraine Lomax Kvitek; as well as five grandchildren, Troy Brown, Talon Brown, Victoria Kvitek, Christiana Kvitek and Chiara Kvitek; numerous other family and friends.
